Abano Street

Information in details

Located at 27, Abano St., a two-story  small size building of old Georgian bricks, was built in the second half of the 19th century. A narrow building standing in a densely built row of wooden balcony houses of Abanotubani attracts attention with a strange-looking wooden ornamental arched green balcony, on top of which a small mezzanine balcony is "squeezed". Next to the traditional ornament of Tbilisi's painted wooden balconies, there are images of stars, airplanes, and trucks, which, together with the variegated tiles of the balcony roof, leave a completely unusual impression and bring an unexpected smile to the visitor. The author of this humorous, original facade concept, as well as the interior design of the house, is the famous Georgian writer, theater, and film director, artist, sculptor, and puppet theater founder - Rezo Gabriadze. Thus, this building is not only a historical building but also a work of art, one of the outstanding examples of Tbilisi urban architecture.
